The Children of Bali Dreaming
Bali Dreaming supports the work of YKIP. (Yayasan Kemonusian Ibu Pertiwi or “Mother Earth Humanitarian Foundation”) and the "YKIP KEMBALI Program" to help impoverished children whose parents cannot afford to send them to school.
"KEMBALI" means "RETURN" in the Indonesian language - and you can help us to help many of these children to "RETURN" TO SCHOOL! Each time you purchase a product from our online store or from one of our parties you help send another child back to school. One of the roots of poverty is the lack of basic education but it is difficult to send your children to school if you cannot afford the fees. Since the economic downturn in Indonesia in 1998, many families have found it difficult to pay the school fees for their children. The difficulties following the terrorist incident in Bali in October 2002 further increased their financial problems. Too many children have dropped out of school even before they reached the end of Junior High School; some are even quitting in Primary grades. The "KEMBALI" - Return to School Fund" is a scholarship program established in October 2004 to assist impoverished children in Bali with their educational costs.
Bali Dreaming currently sponsors 40 children in the "KEMBALI" scholarship program and our goal is to support 100.
Helping People to help themselves |
Bali Dreaming has also funded the building of a factory in a Balinese village. This has enabled Iketut Danta to earn sufficient income to stay in his village with his young family instead of having to live away from them in the village of Ubud in order to seek work. The factory produces Tofu, a traditional form of protein which he sells to other members of his village and surrounding villages. |
